Our ‘gloomy’ site gets a face-lift

Our main website (www.DigiGifts.com.au) has been given a fresh look, designed to give a warmer, more inviting feel while still displaying our most popular products clearly. The new design now features a large, catchy flash animation to help highlight exactly what our website is about and what we sell. We have tried to keep the size and length of the animation down to a minimum  to help it load fairly quick on slower internet connection speeds. For those that don’t have the flash plugin installed (such as iPhone users), we also have a non-flash version for you to see. Its not animated, but still looks attractive. We have also pulled forward to the front page some of our more unique products that were buried deep within our enourmous website. These products are some of our most popular, however were getting missed by new visitors because they couldn’t easily find them. We have kept the rest of the layout fairly straight forward and clear so that those who were already familiar with our last site design won’t get lost on the new design. The top navigation bar now appears at the top of every page making it easy to jump to the home, about us, contact us, host a party, frequently asked questions and blog pages. The left hand side navigation has stayed pretty much the same as before, offering visitors a quick jump guide to most of our product areas.

Holiday Shoppers shift purchases online for convenience

Holiday shoppers continue to shift purchases online for convenience, but competitive pricing is more important this year than last, according to Neilsen Online. New York, NY – November 19, 2008 – Nielsen Online, a service of the Nielsen Company, today announced that consumers will continue to shift their gift buying online this holiday season, citing convenience, time saving and price among the primary reasons for shopping on the Web. With the current economic downturn, there is an increased focus on price this year, with 53 percent of consumers citing price as a reason to buy online, compared with 46 percent last year. Interestingly, though, consumers continue to trump convenience more than price as the primary value of the channel, with 76 percent of consumers citing the ability to shop 24 hours a day and 74 percent citing time saving for why they shop online. These results are from a Nielsen Online pre-holiday survey intended to gauge online consumers’ holiday shopping plans for 2008. The online survey was fielded from November 6-11 among approximately 1,300 online shoppers in the U.S. who did holiday shopping online last year and/or planned to do so this year. Holiday Gift Dollar Shifting Online Survey results indicate that holiday gift budgets are shifting online. Respondents said that they would spend an increased percent of their holiday shopping budget online, an average of 41 percent compared to 39 percent last year. And more respondents indicated that they would spend the majority of their holiday gift budgets online, up to 36 percent from 32 percent a year ago. Consumers who shopped online in March purchased nearly 12 per cent more items compared to the previous month, while the average dollar value increased by more than four per cent, suggesting that not only were consumers buying more items online, they were actually spending more money on average than they had just the month before.” More and more consumers these days are being more thoughtful about where they spend their money. Let’s face it, if you love to shop, why not learn how to shop smarter? Shopping online is one of the most easiest and convenient ways to shop because you can do it at any time of the day, from almost any location. Buying the best products at the best prices is no longer hard with a multitude of online stores to choose from. It’s always the simple things in life that make shopping fun, like when you buy a personalised puzzle and get it exactly how you want. There are many online stores which sell personalised puzzles, but many of the larger organisations don’t sell them with gift boxes, instead they come flat packed in a plastic sleeve. Not really very appealing if you intend on giving it as a gift. Its also not very practical because you don’t have anywhere nice and neat to store the puzzle pieces. It tends to be a general rule of thumb that the websites that look and work best are run by better established companies; however this is not always the case. Smaller companies which have less fancy website may be able to offer products at cheaper prices too. Some of the companies with smaller website may actually be the original manufacturers of the products you are after, or may have only just recently gotten online and haven’t spent the time or money investing in a fancy website.
